We love answering with enthusiasm, “Yes, we get to grow them!”
Potatoes are a state trademark for Idaho. Our Idaho potatoes are an exclusive subset of the Idaho crop given the unique soil in which they are grown. Farming at the foot of world-class sand dunes and an ancient volcano creates an ideal growing environment for beautiful and flavorful “spuds.”
Our rich, volcanic, sandy soil warms quickly in the summer sun, allowing the potato plant to reach growing degree temperatures early in the morning and retain them into the evening. This well-drained soil type allows for rapid nutrient exchange and ease of tuber expansion. The result is a large, firm potato with a smooth skin that can be rinsed clean and ready to eat in minutes. Forget about scrubbing and rough nobs for your potato peeler to get stuck in.
We believe minimal transportation creates a fresher and better product. We source all of our potato seed from local eastern Idaho seed farmers. The same is true for our finished product. From climate-controlled storage cellar to our climate-controlled potato packing shed, Benchmark, our russets travel just 16 miles. Potatoes that are babied and transported the shortest distance possible from farm to fork create that ideal product we expect and require for our own family and our customers.
Once at Benchmark, our potatoes are washed, sized, graded, boxed and bagged to fit our customer’s exact needs and expectations. Because potatoes are a year-round food staple, we prioritize making our potatoes a reliable food source for our customers. We own our storage cellars and are share holders in Benchmark. This allows us to closely manage our potatoes supply, so our customers always have ample selection and quantity.
